Add, subtract, multiply, or divide two fractions. The answer is reduced to lowest terms and shown as both an improper fraction and a mixed number.
Results update as you type. Denominators cannot be zero; division by 0/d is undefined.
Cross-multiply to a common denominator: a/b + c/d = (a×d + c×b) ÷ (b×d), then reduce. For example, 1/2 + 1/3 = (3 + 2) ÷ 6 = 5/6.
Multiply the first fraction by the reciprocal of the second: a/b ÷ c/d = (a×d) ÷ (b×c). For example, 1/2 ÷ 1/4 = (1×4) ÷ (2×1) = 4/2 = 2.
Divide the numerator and denominator by their greatest common divisor (GCD). For example, 8/12 has a GCD of 4, so it reduces to 2/3.
