Add sales tax to a net price, or strip it back out of a tax-inclusive total. Works for GST, VAT and any percentage sales tax, with one-tap presets for the most common rates.
Results update as you type. Amounts are shown to 2 decimal places.
Multiply the net amount by the tax rate divided by 100 to get the tax, then add it to the net amount. For example, 100 plus 20% tax is 100 × 0.20 = 20 tax, so the gross total is 120.
Divide the gross amount by 1 plus the rate as a decimal to get the net amount, then subtract to find the tax. For example, a gross of 120 at 20% gives net = 120 ÷ 1.20 = 100, and tax = 120 − 100 = 20.
GST (Goods and Services Tax) and VAT (Value Added Tax) are both consumption taxes added to the price of goods and services. The names differ by country, but the maths of adding or removing the tax is identical, which is why this one calculator handles both.
